Best plant-based greens and meal replacements

One dataset drives this page. Prices, serving sizes, label disclosure and scores come from the same records used in every review, so a change updates everywhere.

A 5.5 g greens scoop is not the same product as a 90 g meal replacement serving, so price, quantity and quality are kept separate and product type is shown as context throughout.

Label disclosure is the first thing we check. A full label lists an amount for every ingredient. A grouped blend gives one total for many ingredients, which is legal and common, but it makes a dose impossible to read. Organic status and finished product testing are tracked as separate fields, never merged into one badge.

Every criterion is calculated from the recorded fields, never from written copy. Each product is scored across the full rubric; a criterion that is not publicly verified is held at a neutral baseline of 5 out of 10 and keeps its full weight, so a thin evidence base cannot produce a high score. Criterion by criterion results are on each review page.

Product summaries

Elixir MRE Nourish

9.0/10

A plant based meal replacement sold direct from the brand in Greenberry and Chocolate, built from organic hemp protein, ancient whole grains, greens, algae, and a botanical herb blend. The supplement facts sheet states a 28 gram serving with 118 calories, 15 g protein, 8.5 g fiber, and 0.3 g sugar, and the brand publishes the exact amount of every ingredient in that 28 gram serving.

Best for: Readers comparing smaller direct to consumer meal replacements against the large brands.

AG1 Next Gen

5.5/10

A widely known greens powder. Vitamin and mineral amounts are listed individually, while the botanical, enzyme, and probiotic groups are presented as named blends.

Best for: Readers who want a familiar reference point for comparing other products.

Huel Black Edition

8.9/10

A meal replacement with a fully itemized nutrition panel published on the product page, covering macros and micronutrients per serving.

Best for: Readers who want a complete nutrition breakdown before they buy.

Ka'Chava Whole Body Meal Shake

6.2/10

A meal shake organized around named blends. The ingredients page groups protein, greens, and adaptogens under blend headings rather than listing per ingredient amounts.

Best for: Readers weighing a premium meal shake against a greens scoop.

Bloom Nutrition Greens and Superfoods

5.7/10

A widely stocked greens powder sold in 30 and 60 serving tubs. The brand markets an ingredient count rather than a published per ingredient breakdown.

Best for: Readers shopping in national retail stores rather than direct from a brand.

Amazing Grass Green Superfood, The Original

5.9/10

A long established greens powder, sold in an 8.5 ounce tub at 30 servings.

Best for: Readers who want the lowest cost per serving in the greens group.

Garden of Life Raw Organic Perfect Food Green Superfood

5.5/10

A long standing organic greens powder sold in 30 and 60 serving sizes, with prices that vary widely between the brand site and other retailers.

Best for: Readers who prioritize certified organic sourcing claims on the label.

Vibrant Health Green Vibrance

5.9/10

A long running formula the brand markets on full disclosure labeling, with no proprietary blends.

Best for: Readers who put per ingredient disclosure first.

Human Tonik Supergreen Tonik

5.9/10

Sold as 30 single serve sachets per bag. The brand states plainly that the formula contains no proprietary blends.

Best for: Readers who want pre measured servings and a fully disclosed formula.

Transparent Labs Prebiotic Greens

7.5/10

A greens powder from a brand built on full disclosure labeling, sold in 30 serving tubs.

Best for: Readers who want disclosure and a mid range price in the same product.

Organifi Green Juice

5.5/10

A 30 serving greens powder that calls out a small number of headline actives while presenting the rest of the formula as a list without amounts.

Best for: Readers who care most about a mild taste and a short ingredient list.

Nested Naturals Super Greens, The Original

5.0/10

A mid priced greens powder sold direct and through major retailers. Serving count and label detail need confirmation from the brand page.

Best for: Readers comparing smaller brands against the category leaders.

Live It Up Super Greens

5.1/10

Formerly sold as Enso Supergreens. The brand describes a whole food formula whose nutrient levels vary from batch to batch.

Best for: Readers who prefer whole food formulas over standardized extracts.

Orgain Organic Meal All-In-One Nutrition Powder

5.5/10

A mainstream organic meal powder sold in grocery and online retail. The brand states USDA Organic certification and 20 g of organic vegan protein per serving.

Best for: Readers who want a certified organic meal powder from a widely stocked brand.

Soylent Complete Meal Powder

4.9/10

An engineered complete food. The brand lists 20 g of protein and 28 vitamins and minerals per meal, sold in multi pouch boxes.

Best for: Readers comparing engineered complete meals on cost rather than whole food positioning.

How the scoring works

  • Ingredient quality18%

Built from verifiable label attributes: organic certification carries the most weight, followed by whole food sourcing, named ingredients rather than grouped blends, and the absence of artificial sweeteners, colors and flavors. A long ingredient list earns nothing on its own, and marketing language is never read. Only the attributes we have verified are averaged, so a product is never credited or penalized for a blank field.

  • Nutrient density15%

Nutritional substance inside the grams delivered, read from the published nutrition panel: protein, fiber, essential fats and low added sugar per 100 g of powder, with naturally occurring micronutrients credited ahead of isolated fortification. Measured as a density so it never repeats the quantity credit in serving grams. Meal replacement completeness is credited only where the verified panel supports it. No therapeutic or medicinal benefit is assumed.

  • Label transparency14%

How much of the formula the published label discloses, from full per ingredient amounts down to grouped blend totals.

  • Value per gram18%

Listed price divided by the grams of powder in the container, so cost is measured against the amount of product you actually receive rather than against a label serving that could be a small scoop or a full meal.

  • Product per dollar5%

Total grams in the container per dollar spent. The same measure as value per gram read from the buyer's side, showing how much product a fixed budget brings home.

  • Serving grams delivered5%

Grams delivered in one label serving, scaled inside the product type so a greens scoop is never measured against a meal serving. Grams alone are not treated as nutrition: where a nutrition panel is verified, the grams score is adjusted by the measured nutrient density, so a large serving built on starch or sugar cannot outscore a smaller nutrient dense serving. This records quantity delivered, not cost, which value per gram handles separately.

  • Price per serving5%

Listed price divided by the labeled serving count. Held at a low weight because a labeled serving is not a standard unit across product types.

  • Testing and certifications10%

Finished product third party testing published by an identifiable source. A manufacturer statement is not treated as an independent result.

  • Packaging protection10%

How well the container protects the powder from light, oxygen and moisture. Amber or dark glass, foil laminate, and high barrier mylar with oxygen or moisture control score highest. Aluminum, opaque plastic, or a plastic tub score in the middle. Clear plastic, vinyl, or other low barrier films score lowest. Recyclability is recorded but treated as secondary to preservation. Packaging that is not publicly verified is withheld from the score rather than assumed, and the same standard applies to every brand.
